Immune-Boosting Fire Cider Recipe

Fire cider is a time-honored herbal remedy designed to boost your immune system, improve digestion, and warm you up on chilly days. Packed with potent ingredients like ginger, turmeric, and garlic, this spicy, tangy tonic is an excellent addition to your wellness routine. Let’s make your own batch!

Ingredients:

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 1 cup ginger root, chopped or grated

  • ¼ cup turmeric root, chopped or grated

  • ½ cup horseradish root, chopped or grated

  • 6 garlic cloves, peeled

  • 2 sprigs rosemary

  • 3 sprigs thyme

  • 1 lemon, sliced

  • 1 orange, sliced

  • 1 tsp whole black peppercorns

  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper

  • 3 cinnamon sticks

  • 4-5 cups raw apple cider vinegar (enough to cover ingredients and fill the jar)

  • ¼ cup raw honey (add after infusion to taste)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients
Chop or grate the fresh ginger and turmeric roots. Slice the lemon and orange into rounds, and chop the onion into pieces.

  2. Assemble the Fire Cider
In a large glass jar, layer the onion, ginger, turmeric, garlic, rosemary, thyme, lemon, orange, peppercorns, and cinnamon sticks.

  3. Add the Vinegar
Pour the apple cider vinegar into the jar, ensuring all ingredients are fully submerged. Use a fermentation weight or a piece of parchment paper between the lid and vinegar to prevent corrosion.

  4. Infuse for 3-4 Weeks
Seal the jar tightly and store it in a cool, dark place for 3 to 4 weeks. Shake the jar every few days to help the flavors meld.

  5. Strain and Sweeten
After the infusion period, strain the cider into a clean jar using a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth. Stir in the raw honey to taste.

  6. Store and Use
Keep your fire cider in the refrigerator or a cool pantry. Enjoy 1-2 tablespoons daily for a fiery wellness boost or mix it into salad dressings or marinades.

Tips for Success:

  • Customize Your Brew: Add cayenne pepper for extra heat or horseradish for an even spicier kick.

  • Storage: Fire cider can last up to 6 months when stored properly in an airtight container.

Why It Works:

Each ingredient contributes to fire cider’s immune-boosting power:

  • Ginger and turmeric are anti-inflammatory powerhouses.

  • Garlic has natural antibacterial properties.

  • Cinnamon and black pepper support circulation.

  • Honey balances the tang and adds natural antioxidants.

Take a shot of this tangy tonic daily and keep the seasonal bugs at bay naturally! 🌿
